Bastrup

Geschichte:

Traditionally Bastrup is associated with "Ebbo de Bastetorp" who is mentioned in a document by King Niels (1104-1134) dating from the late 1120s. He is possibly to be identified with Ebbe Skjalmsen, the uncle of archbishop Absalon, and the theory is supported by the fact, that his close descendants owned property and castles in the nearby area. It can however not be ruled out that Ebbo de Bastetorp was a royal bailiff at the site. In Liber Census Daniæ c. 1230 the otherwise unknown "Hermannus de Basthorpe" is mentioned. Bastrup does not occur in later written sources and was in all probability abandoned in the Middle Ages. Possibly, its responsibilities were taken over by the close by Langsøhus which appears in written records from 1274. (H. M. Møller Nielsen)

Bauentwicklung:

Traditionally Bastrup is dated to the early 12th century. Building stages have neither been recorded in the tower nor in the bank and ditch. It is not known when the castle was abandoned, but in all probability it happened during the Middle Ages. (H. M. Møller Nielsen)

Baubeschreibung:

Indvendig diameter 8,5 m. Murværket står indvendigt i ca. 5,7 m højde.

Partly preserved basement of circular tower with 6 m thick rubblefilled walls faced with calcareous tufa. The inner diameter is 8,5 m and the present inner height is 5,7 m. Except scaffolding beam holes no details are seen and no traces of adjacent buildings or other buildings at the site have been found. A 6-7 m wide and 1 m deep ditch and a small bank have been excavated to the north of the tower (the entrance way). (H. M. Møller Nielsen)
